6 Tips on Releasing Your Books

• Aim to simultaneously publish paperback, ebook
Writers sometimes wonder which version of their book they should print first – the paperback or the ebook. Ideally, both would come out at about the same time. After all, you are selling one product – your book – and you want all the different platforms that it can appear in to be available as soon as you tell everyone you’ve released your title.

• Why you must publish your book digitally
As someone who wants to publish a book, you’re no doubt wondering if the ebook is for you. There are several practical reasons why you simply must publish an ebook.

• Distribute ebook on variety of ereaders, tablets
Often when clients get ready to format their manuscript into an ebook, they ask me which electronic book platform they should publish in. That’s sort of like asking, “Which bookstore should I sell my book in?” The answer to all is all of them!

• Audio book
Audio books are a largely unexploited market for authors. Though more than 100,000 books were published last year as either paperbacks or ebooks, fewer than 5000 of them also were published as audio books. That means there are far fewer audio book listeners to sift through, increasing the chances they’ll select your book over a competitor’s.

• Bundle ebooks to boost your online sales
One of the tried-and-true ways to move retail goods is to give a “2 for 1” or a “Buy 1 get 1 free” deal. People can’t resist a bargain, and the same strategy can work for your ebooks. This ploy in self-publishing is known as bundling.

• When is best time of the year to release a book?
Among the many questions an indie author faces is when to release a book. Big publishing houses obviously select dates for their book releases to maximize marketing efforts and hence sales, and those of us who are self-publishing should do the same.
