Exploration is more important than striving, at least initially for a writer learning the craft. Productivity is only relevant in that you keep writing to grow and hone your skills. Once you’ve reached a certain level of competence, your short story, novel or nonfiction book will be publishable. What are the fundamental skills that a writer should possess? Do you have them?
