Should you write shades of gray or shades of grey? Are the aliens abducting us the Grays or the Greys?

Depends on what side of the pond you’re on.

If you’re in America, gray is the preferred spelling. If you’re in Britain, that’ll get you one wrong on your spelling test as grey is preferred.

There – that should make the issue black and white now.
