Sometimes we just need a little inspiration or encouragement to write – like those times when we’re uncertain if the manuscript we’re working on is any good, or the times when writer’s block hits. Here are some great tips to get the creative fires burning (click the linked title for the full article):
• Time spent writing is a productive time
All too often, novice writers tell themselves, “I should be doing something else other than writing.” Maybe it’s folding laundry, maybe it’s working on the project for your employers, maybe it’s just relaxing.
• Don’t wait for writing inspiration to strike
One of the biggest mistakes aspiring writers make is to wait for “inspiration.” While there certainly are times in all authors’ lives that they are more creative and productive, you can’t idly hope that such a moment soon arrives. Instead, you need to practice and master your craft by writing constantly. Indeed, you arguably become more creative once you’ve immersed yourself in your craft.
• There’s no need to ‘want’ to be a writer. Simply write.
All too often, struggling writers sabotage themselves without even realizing it. They do this by labeling themselves as an “aspiring novelist,” or as a “wannabe writer.” Perhaps they even say stuff like “I wish I were a writer” or “Someday I’ll publish a book.”
• Achieve your writing vision by setting goals
To be successful at anything – including writing – you must set clear goals. Without goals, you are merely meandering, a stream that covers ground until reaching the lowest point. With goals, you are a mighty torrent carving out a great canyon.
• To write is to realize my destiny
Writing is your destiny. It’s more than just a pattern in your life. It is reaching for your full potential; it is those moments you feel most self-empowered.
