Sometimes we just need a little inspiration or encouragement to write – like those instances when we’re uncertain if the manuscript we’re working on is any good or the instances when writer’s block hits. Here are some great tips to get your creative energy bursting (click the linked title for the full article):
• Explore then strive
Exploration is more important than striving, at least initially for a writer learning the craft. Productivity is only relevant in that you keep writing to grow and hone your skills.
• Revise and continue
Should you have an unfinished story or chapter, begin a 15-minute writing session by revising it.
• Time to work hard
Once you’ve reached a certain level of competence as a writer, you then must work hard to achieve your goals. For a writer, there’s nothing nuanced about hard work.
• Who are you?
Being authentic requires that you be in touch with yourself. Ask yourself who you are.
• Seek another’s advice
Have another person read a manuscript that you have been working on for some time. Use their advice to revise the piece.
• Why do you write?
What is the purpose of your writing? That is, why do you write?
• Writers’ lifestyles
Reflect upon writers’ lifestyles that you’ve heard about on television/radio programs or read about in books. Did those writers possess a compassion for life and others?
