7 Tips for Building your Author’s Platform

Once you’ve published your book, you’ll need to promote it if you want to see sales. A great way to get started with your promotion is to set up an author’s platform (click the linked title for the full article):

• What exactly is an “author’s platform”?
One of the most heard phrases mentioned when marketing a self-published book is author platform. Despite how commonly it’s heard, there’s a lot of confusion about what exactly is an author platform.

• Use consistent name across your author’s platform
As creating an author’s platform – that is, setting up all of the tools you’ll use to get word out about your book – pay close attention to the name you use. All too often, the social media sites for an author utilize different names, which can make you difficult to find.

• Writers can blog about variety of topics
The biggest question facing any writer is what to blog about. You’ve got lots of options.

• Get a hashtag for your book to generate sales
Especially if you have a series of books, you should create a hashtag for them. Doing so is a great way to increase your number of followers, which leads to increased book sales.

• How authors build a brand to sell more books
As an author, you want to build a brand. And for any author, his or her name almost always is the brand.

• Pay attention to your author’s bio pic
One of the elements of a self-published book that shouldn’t be overlooked is the author’s photograph. While the photo often is a thumbnail or even smaller, it can subtly affect a reader’s decision to purchase your book.

• Develop a marketing plan to increase sales
A marketing plan gives your efforts focus, allowing you to maximize results for your efforts. It’s about determining the best ways to reach readers and enacting strategies to do so.
