Best Times to Post on Bluesky

When promoting your self-published book, Bluesky ought to play an important role in the marketing strategy. With 20 million plus users as of November 2024, an “Xodus” of people leaving “Xitter” (X/Twitter) is underway and sure to grow through 2025 as X owner Elon Musk continues to insert himself into national politics.

Knowing when to post on Bluesky, however, can maximize your efforts.

The best time to post on Bluesky depends on the day of the week, according to a June 2023 analysis by Sprout Social, a company that provides social media management tools and analysis. Specifically (in Central Time):
• Tuesdays, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Wednesdays, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Thursdays, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Fridays, 6 a.m. to noon

These times mark the highest usage on Bluesky. They offer the greatest opportunity for being seen and for engagement.

While stats from 2023 may seem old, they are relevant today. That’s because most people on Bluesky are former Xitter users who are looking to regain the social media experience they lost the past few years.

Not surprisingly, the Bluesky times line up well with the best times to post on Xitter (Central Time):
• Weekdays: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Weekends: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends

Those times were determined in a July 2024 analysis by SocialPilot, a competitor to Sprout Social.

Of course, these times are relative. If you wish to sell books nationally or to a specific area (suppose you wrote a hiking guidebook about a national forest in California), you need to post over a longer spread of time than the hours given in your time zone, or you’ll miss the peak times in other parts of the country. For example, if you reside in Chicago or Minneapolis (Central Time), on Tuesdays you would aim messages for the East Coast at 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central Time and messages for the West Coast at 9  a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time.

The absolute worst time to post on Bluesky is Sundays. Though people are on Bluesky during then, the number of users drops considerably compared to the earlier mentioned peak hours. Friday afternoons, Saturdays and Mondays are better than Sundays but still not quite as good as the times given above for Tuesdays through Friday morning.
